Our local newspaper had a nice article on ECU's 2nd year Women's Lacrosse team a few days ago and made significant parallels to improvements from Title IX.  In response, I wrote the attached letter to the editor.  I'll probably catch hell from some:  (click on the attachment to read easier)

Western Carolina University once had a Varsity Wrestling program.  It was dropped in the spring of 1975 due to Title IX.

Elon also had a program that was doing quite well when it was dropped. It was dropped a few years before I got there in 1993.

In the 1970's there were 18-20 NCAA or NAIA varsity wrestling teams in NC, half of them dropped for Title IX balance.  UNC used to host the annual Carolina Collegiates, a state championship for college teams which allowed 2 entries per school per weight and it was a fun annual event.  Pretty competitive.  UNCW, UNCC, A&T, Elizabeth City State, Winston-Salem State, Barber-Scotia, Elon, Western Carolina, ECU, and probably a couple others used to wrestle collegiately.

Also Catawba, Livingstone, Pfeiffer and all the colleges that still have it.  On the positive side, Duke, ASU, UNC, & NCSU have all had wrestling since the 1930's or earlier.
