3A State Championships were conducted very smoothly and efficiently. Maurice Atwood and team ran a great tournament. Mr. Atwood gave the parents/coaches/participants periodic updates on tournament status, timeline and changes. Running 3rd/4th place matches on all four mats was a great call that sped up the tourney and got everyone out a decent time. Also, the gyms were significantly cooler from the week prior.

Too often people only hit message boards to complain but I would like to go the opposite direction and give credit when its due!!!!!

It was smooth sailing regarding the overall execution of the tourney, without a doubt.  Atwood, AD White and Eastern Guilford Administration deserve a lot of credit for sure.

As for the Viking ships themselves, both the Central Cabarrus and Union Pines Vikings ran into rough waters early on and lost some warriors.  Both Viking teams came back strong in the finals though,  but it was the two Baglio Vikings that carried their mates to Victory over Piedmont and the UP Vikings with two big nails in the coffin.
