App does this very often and i'll never understand the thought process behind 3 125 pounders, especially 3 125 pounders from the SAME CLUB all going to the same school to compete for the same spot. Mind Boggling.  Couple years ago they pulled heath gleaton, which ever grigg brother was last and then the older shufford brother all at the same time. And those are just the names I can remember. It still happens pretty frequently. What is the appeal for app? Kids go there and very rarely pan out because theyre stock piled.

My guess would be 1 of a handful of things. 1 being keeping a kid at 125 for 4 years is hard. the bookends are the two toughest weights to fill for various reasons. 2. there is a ton of attrition at the collegiate level, especially D 1 but college wrestling at any division is hard. 3. due to said attrition and difficulty of keeping a kid at 125 for 4 years you have a safety valve, and can/possibly cover 2 weights if one can't hold the weight and can then go up to 133 should the need arise. Just a handful of thoughts off the top of my head.

Oh I get it on the coaching end. If kids are going to keep coming why not stock pile them, outside of the fact that those kids could have gone somewhere else and been successful instead of sitting and wasting away eligibility.  However as an athlete it still doesn't make any sense to me.

I hear ya. From the Athletes perspective its the nobody is going to beat me out for the spot mentality. Thats at least how I would have thought about the situation. All of the kids you mentioned (Grigg, Shuford etc....) think that way.

Always bring in quality talent regardless of weight.  App sees something in them.  Good for them and good for App.  Hope all three are AAs.

Same reason why football teams may recruit 2-3 QB's for competition, attrition like Rogers stated, and they may miss on one or two and he not develop like they hoped, surely 1 of the 3 will have a successful career and hopefully all 3 will. I love that App has a commitment to NC kids.

Want to wrestle in college but not getting a big $offer?  ECU has a competing college club team that allows our wrestlers to compete in duals and tournaments up through the NCWA Nationals each year.  Our events allow multiple entries so if you get to practice daily you will get to compete in the tournaments.  Take a look at our attached flyer.

He had early offer from Clarion(PA) and Walk-on at Appalachian State late.  Other than that no real interest from any D1 schools.  Belmont Abbey was the most active school in recruiting him and he should get a really good education out of the deal.

Good luck to Josh. Hell of a wrestler!! Wish him nothing but success. Have fun with Issac Toe and give em hell Gents.

Clarion seems to recruit a lot here in NC. Off the top of my head, I know Vernagallo and Jameson are two up there.

Loki Ryan will be attending Spartanburg Methodist College next season. I hope to see more NC guys attend SMC if they don't get the offers they expected. Matt Oliver is building a very good Juco program right here in the Carolinas with multiple AA's already.

Matt is a great coach. I would like to send more guys to spartanburg because its closer than Kansas and the other juco's, however its just not the cheapest option in the Juco route. In state SC kids though it should be a no brainer! Excellent deal for in state kids.

Coach Atwood, that's awesome news. I've been watching Nigel develop since his 8th or 9th grade year. He just plain outworked a lot of kids this year. A couple years in a college weight-room and wrestling room and he will be a stud for UNCP.

Congratulations Nigel!

Jack Britt's female wrestler Madajah Trapier signed the same day Erick Martinez did.  Trapier will be going to Presbyterian College to wrestler next year.

Both of these two are great athletes with great work ethics too.  I look forward to seeing these two do big things on the football field and wrestling mat at the college level.
