Does anyone know the reasoning behind the no wrestlebacks? I have a hard time when I cannot see any logic behind decisions, especially when I don't agree with them. I guess it's the math teacher in me. Not wrestling the consi's surely does not have a profound effect on spread of a virus. Cutting out consi's does not really save that much time or make running the tournament that much easier.
Please reply and help me understand. Thanks!

We will probably get more information when it gets closer to our season. The one that makes no sense to me is why is Regionals a 2 day event (when everyone is out of school and by their guidelines can be done in one day), while the State Tournament is now a 1 day event?

Did anybody also notice that now we can have tris but it still only has 14 total duals? With a 7 week season it would make no sense to have a tri when you would be done in half that time frame with all tris. I thought surely they would change the total number of duals if they allowed us to have tris.

Maybe a compromise would be what was used back in the 60's and 70's; the "pull through" method for advancing to a 3rd place match. If you are not familiar with that type of advancement, in a 16 man bracket only the losers of the wrestlers who advance to the finals match get to wrestle for 3rd place. It would only add 2 rounds, 2 matches per weight class per round.

Yes, Repechage and pulling people back in would make way more sense than no wrestle backs at all. It is just not fair at all. Not having wrestle backs does not make any sense at all.

My interpretation is that you can complete on 14 dates, 2 per week, during the 7 weeks and that they can be tri-meets. I certainly could be wrong though. This would give wrestlers up to 28 matches.

I thought that might be the case, but it did not specifically say. 28 matches would be better for the kids than 14. I hope this is the case.

Doesn’t make sense that we can only compete duals but we can’t have a dual state tournament. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad we got regionals and ind. state but the state duals was the only thing allowed before this change.

I wouldn't get bent out of shape over this right now. There have been so many changes already that even more changes are almost guaranteed. If there is a vaccine for COVID then that will change everything anyway depending on the time frame of the vaccine's availability.
I'm a coach who likes the state duals more than the state tournament, but I support having the state tournament over the state duals, because I believe it is important for the wrestlers to get their opportunity to win an individual state title. Not having consolations will definitely change some tournament scoring arrangements, but again, this could change. I'm sure the coaches association are making plans to offer recommendations.

The NCHSAA updated the website 9/15/20 to reflect 14 Tri-Meets for the season with a max of 2 Tri-meets per week.

I realize, as well as hope that there is still time for changes to be made to the current decisions for our sport this school year. But I was wondering if anyone had clarification on the no wrestle back decision.
What does that mean for a division such as the 4A in which the top 4 placers from Regionals move on to the State Tournament? Does it mean that in order to qualify for the State tournament you can not lose before the semi-final round? And only the top 4 that reach semis will move on to States?
Likewise for the State Tournament. Does it mean the same applies in order to place in the top 4 at States? And will only those that lose in the quarterfinals place 5th-8th? And how do you determine who gets those places if they can't wrestle each other for those remaining spots due to no wrestle backs? Again, I know this may all change but curious as to how it will be conducted as it currently stands.
Thanks!

I had heard from a coach that is usually in the know that at regionals the semifinal losers would wrestle one another with the winner advancing to states which would be a 12 man bracket. But who knows?
-
I'm sure things might change...but does anyone have knowledge how the seeding process for Regionals will be? Same as the past, the point system based on W-L PCT and added points from previous State tournament result? If so, what would be the min # of matches. It's been based on 15.
Thanks

Regionals with be seeded based off of winning percentage with the adjusted points from last years state tournament. It has not been determined at this time what the match minimum will be. This will most likely be determind at a later time, shortly before the beginning of the modified season.

I have heard that the no wrestleback decision affects fan attendance. No wrestlebacks= less matches. Lose out, most go home. Less spectators. I hope they can wrestle back as well. Consolation semis is one of the best rounds of the tournament.

In addition to the 14 tris, each conference can have a conference tournament. This can be held during a week that you are also wrestling 2 tris, but keep in mind that June 11 is the last competition date so it must be on or before June 11. This was covered in the online rules clinic.
