Anyone know what the hold up is with the hydration testing and the start of the wrestling season? I don't understand the delay. Other states have completed their seasons. The D1 Championships have occurred without a single positive test. I understand due caution, but this didn't just happen yesterday. Our numbers are trending in the right direction. It is very frustrating seeing every other sport workout and be on the verge of starting their season, and we are still just sitting on our hands.

I was wondering the same thing. We can't do anything in OPC yet. I was hoping to knock out hydration starting next week and have 2 good weeks of conditioning since we can't have contact until April 12th
-
My understanding is that trackwrestling will not open the OPC until the NCHSAA finalizes all protocols for the season. I think there is some discussion about the 2lb allowance amongst other things.
-
Does anyone know a date when NCHSAA is going to make their final call on everything for us? I've read the minutes from our state coaches board from their last meeting. Seen what they proposed but it all just looks like were waiting on the the state health board and the NCHSAA to have their final say. Less than 3 weeks until April 12. Be nice to not be sitting in the dark until the last minute.

Well not even an hour after making my last post we just got an email from Tra. Didn't have a lot of information. Said were still waiting on the dept of health to finalize our regulations and then OPC will open Mar 31, Hydration can happen April 2.

Just pointing that out because obviously there is more going on behind the scenes than we are aware of. I know one issue is masks, but I'm sure there are other concerns as well. I'm still not convinced we are going to have a season. Not trying to be negative. Just keeping it real. I'm cautiously optimistic. I do believe the NCHSAA wants us to have a season, but the parameters set out by the NCDHHS may dictate otherwise.

Absolutely crazy that it is still up in the air about even having a season as stated previously many states and NCAA’s completed their seasons and no incidents. National tourneys have been happening for the last 6 months with hardly no issues. Leadership needs to step up and make a decision so coaches/parents and athletes can make a decision on how to proceed. I know of a few in the state that would of moved to another state but stayed due to the fact at least we were going to have somewhat of a season. At this point holding off decisions is jeopardizing our wrestlers in the state that compete at the national level from getting spots on national dual teams for the spring because those teams are being filled now, but our NC hammers may lose out on those spots plus a season. Leadership is never ending, it is a living organism that requires ownership on decisions made, it seems most want to avoid any responsibility for any decisions, so as others have stated “let’s just sit in our hands and look at each other” great mission statement from our leaders.

Yeah at this point with the numbers we currently have, were coming up on summer numbers will drop more. Theres no reason to keep such strict guidelines on us. Let these kids wrestle. Weve seen it can be done safely at all levels. Other states have run safely, national tournaments have run safely. Everyone else got their season. Give us ours, give us wrestle backs , dont make the kids wear masks on the mat. Wear them on the bench like every other level has. We'll run this 7 week season and get ready for next season.

I've been away for a little while...
What's the latest?

Just changed on the NCHSAA website:
Season Fast Facts:
HYDRATION TESTING | Apr 2, 2021
-
Track wrestling opened up yesterday.
State email said track would open once they had finalized decisions, but we haven't gotten a final report on anything as far as i've seen.

The "COVID Manual (https://www.nchsaa.org/2020-2021-nchsaa-modified-sports-manual)" says "Sport-specific modifications, rules, regulations, & rule considerations will be posted the week of April 5th" for wrestling so, hopefully we'll know something this week.

The practice of https://www.gosocialhealth.com/ testing has been implemented for the past couple of decades, with new and more advanced technology capable of detecting smaller changes in an athlete’s hydration status becoming available in more recent years. Hydration status can influence a range of physiological functions in the human body relating to both performance and health, therefore, regular testing is advised
