So we are a little more than a month away. Anyone hearing anything about a possible site or sites for these?
-
Not the sites, but the format.
2 mats and 6 officials somewhere in or near Greensboro High Schools.
-
Why would we not use 4 mats?
-
That is the word Regional Supervisors are understanding. You should give your Regional Supervisor a call or send an email to him.

Two mats is going to TAKE FOREVER!!!

That math doesn't add up. With no wrestle backs that's 240 matches each for 2A, 3A & 4A. That's 120 matches per mat. Figure 8 minutes from the start of each match to the start of the next match. That's 960 minutes = 16 hours. Start at 8am end at midnight? And 4A and 1A are BOTH scheduled to be held at Glenn HS. If I'm wrong on my math, which is highly possible, please correct me.

Allocating 8 minutes between matches, especially in the first round, is a bit much. Will it be a long day? Absolutely. But it will go quicker than you're expecting. My HOPE is to have the final round begin by 7pm. Here is my thinking:
First round: 930-230
Quarters- 230-5 (no break in between)
Semis- 5-630 (no break in between)
FInals (1st/3rd at same time)- 7-9
Still determining how to present awards to wrestlers. We will have a podium at Eastern Guilford for 3A. May not wait until the end to present and may very well be presenting awards while competition is going on. Not ideal by any means, but as long as the placers get on the podium is all that matters.

No break in between rounds will put a burden on your officials. 112 matches completed in round one is doable in 5 hours with a lot of luck, no extended injury time, no wasted time at the scoring table, no break down with Wi-Fi or Track wrestling. Like I said, with a lot of luck.

Why? What logic or reasoning is there in only having two mats?

Our athletes have lost enough, can’t even highlight the state championship match is a true failure. Having 3rd place match on one mat and state championship match on another mat is disrespectful to our athletes. Close to same amount of time if we have 3rd place matches at the same time start mat 1-106, mat 2-113, and so on. Once 3rd place is completed highlight state finals match on one mat, those who make the finals deserve the undivided attention from those in attendance, just my thought.
