Title: Is it time to look at actual team records for the Dual Team State Tournament
Post by: Longdayrunner on September 10, 2021, 10:19:34 AM
Is it time to look at something other than winning the regular season in a conference to qualify for the Dual Team State Tournament.  When you at a look at the NCHSAA Dual Team Conferences, there are several conferences where just two or three schools are in a conference.  Many of those schools have traditionally been very uncompetitive in the sport of wrestling.  Without naming those schools, take a look at the attachment and you will see what I see.  So you have these uncompetitive schools sending a representative and you have very competitive conferences sending only one representative due to the split conferences.  In another word, you are not having a truly competitive State Dual Team Tournament.

You have to review the attachment to see what I am talking about.  One regular season match will decide the entry for the State Dual Team Tournament and maybe the eventual winner of the Dual Team State Tournament and the second best team never got a chance.  We have the tools to truly come up with the top sixteen to thirty-two schools in each classification to qualify for the Dual Team Tournament.  Why don't we use them????????????

There should be something done about the split conferences like this, but let's not hold our breath.  There should be some type of criteria applied to the winner of a split conference.

With the way they have done realignment on these split conferences this year it definitely hurts some conferences. Like our current conference is split. 8 total team. Only 5 4A teams so only get one 4A bid out of our conference. So Lumberton, jackbritt and south view all teams that historically have made the duals only one team gets to qualify.

That will be the case in the Western Foothills Conference as well. North Iredell, Fred T Foard, Statesville, Saint Stephens are all four teams that usually make the duals and two of them will go home. Not only do they all usually make the duals but they are all usually past the first round too.
