NCHSAA has released the
sports-specific guidelines.
Regular Season Rules and Regulations
The considerations outlined in this document are meant to decrease potential exposure to respiratory droplets by encouraging social distancing, limiting participation in administrative tasks to essential personnel and allowing for appropriate protective equipment.
Important Dates:
March 31 - TrackWrestling Registration Opens
April 2 - Hydration Testing May Begin
April 12 - First Practice
April 26 - First Competition Date; 2lb allowance begins
June 11 - Last Competition Date; Individual Regional Entry Deadline (11:59 P.M.); Women’s Invitational Deadline (11:59 P.M.)
June 15 - Individual Regional Tournament
June 19 - Women’s Invitational Tournament
June 26 - Individual State Tournament
Regular Season Information:
Teams are limited to two (2) events per week
An event is defined as a dual team match (2 schools) or a tri-match (3 schools)
Additionally, a conference is allowed to have one (1) individual conference tournament in which all school may participate
Wrestlers must compete in seven (7) matches for regional seeding. In cases where a wrestler has participated in less than 7 matches, the number short of 7 shall count as losses for seeding percentages
All wrestlers will receive the 2-lb growth allowance beginning on Monday, April 26th
Hygiene/Sanitation/Social Distancing Considerations:
Have hand sanitizer and wipes available at the table
Wash stations or sanitizer at mat side
No one touches the score sheet except the official scorer
If writing implements are used, they should be sanitized and not shared with anyone
Disinfect the mats prior to and in between team competitions
Weigh-ins
Weigh-ins should be held in a well-ventilated space (gym, mat room, aux. gym, etc.)
Only one (1) school should weigh-in at a time
By NFHS Rule, all wrestlers will weigh-in wearing a legal uniform and a suitable undergarment that completely covers the buttocks and the groin area (no shoes or ear guards allowed)
Pre-Match & Post-Match
Ensure any pre-match meeting is away from other players and all individuals maintain a social distance of 6 feet. Mask use by coach, players and officials is required during the meeting
Eliminate gathering, hugging, shaking hands, fist bumps, dog piles, etc. following pre-match meeting and at the conclusion of the match
Officials will not raise the hand of the winning wrestler, they will direct the wrestler to raise their own hand/arm at the conclusion of the match in the center circle
Spectators

Equipment, Competition, and Other Pertinent Information
Wrestling MatsIf available, schools should utilize two mats during warm-ups/competition and alternate matches between the mats
Mats should be sanitized between matches on a given mat
Outdoor CompetitionSchools are allowed to have competitions outdoors provided that the mats are leveled and all areas surrounding the mat are properly padded and safe for the student-athletes
Ankle BandsIf available, use multiple sets of ankle bands for matches and sanitize the bands after each use
Face Coverings
PracticeAthletes are not required to wear face coverings during practice while exercising/conditioning, if socially distanced
Athletes are required to wear face coverings during practice if they are in contact with another student-athlete
Face coverings must be single-use and disposable
CompetitionAthletes are not required to wear face coverings during their actual match, but must wear them until checking in at the head table
If an athlete chooses to wear a face covering during a match, it must be single-use and disposable
All wrestlers are required to wear face coverings at all times off the mat
All other non-participating individuals are required to wear cloth face coverings at all times
Coaches, officials, spectators, team bench, etc.
Locker Rooms
The use of locker rooms for both home and visiting teams shall be determined by the host school’s local policy
Home school should communicate with the visiting team and officials relative to dressing area availability
Visiting teams are strongly encouraged to wear their uniform to any contest
Transportation

No sharing of water bottles. All students must bring their own water bottle, clearly marked with their name.
Food must not be shared.
Hydration stations (water troughs, water fountains, etc.) must not be utilized by individuals. Designate one person to refill water bottles when needed
COVID-19 Monitoring
All coaches and wrestlers will be required to fill out a daily COVID-19 monitoring/attestation form to check for signs and symptoms of infection
This form will be uploaded on the wrestling page of the website prior to the start of practice on April 12
